Under 12 British Championships 2015

City of Newcastle Academy sent 2 boys to compete at the u12 British Championships 2015 at Basildon Sporting Village, London.

On Saturday 5th December 2015 George Ross & Freddy Nelson competed in their first British Championships.

During warm up George incurred an injury to his elbow while doing his double back somersault dismount off P-bars. George seen the physio, who taped him up and he managed with simplified routines to compete on all 6 apparatus. George battled through finishing 41st overall  with a score of 60.232 and finished 7th overall on vault.


Freddy Nelson  finished 7th overall with a new PB with a total score of 70.999. Freddy had some fantastic individual apparatus scores finishing 10th on pommel, 6th on vault, 5th on p-bars and 4th on floor. Outstanding results for first year British.

MAG at the London Open 26th September

Freddy finishes 10th overall in elite level 3. 3rd on rings, 7th on p-bars & 8th on pommel.

Tyler scores 60.383 and finishes 33rd out of 46. Few mistakes but battled through.

Elite under8 comp Luca finished 11th overall, 6th on floor, 9th on pommel, 2nd high bar, 8th APP and Dylan 25th with a score 50.040 from 28.

Unfortunate fall for James on High Bar during podium training. Fractured foot and soft tissue damage.

Thomas finishes 9th overall with a score of 55.250, 3rd on p-bars scoring 9.500 and 9th on high bar scoring 9.100 Great results

 Great competition for George & Kurtis. George scores 56.300 and 4th overall and Kurtis 15th scoring 54.500
Also in the under 8 Daniel finishes 4th on vault with 9.300 and Elliot 7th on high bar with score of 8.100.
 In the u8 comp Kyle finishes 44th, Noah 38th, Daniel 33rd, Jake 20th, Elliot 11th


 George finishes 9th on pommel, 8th on vault, 3rd on p-bars, 3rd on high bar. Brilliant results.
 Level 1 comp Koby finishes 27th scoring 48.25, Fin 18th scoring 49.50, Will 15th scoring 50.000, Stuart 50.650 finishing 10th.
Will finishes 2nd on Pommel scoring 9.600 & 10th p-bars 8.800, Stuart 4th on vault scoring 9.350. Well done boys.

The City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy provides quality facilities and the development of gymnastics throughout the North of England. The Gymnastics Academy creates the best opportunities, inspires and develops gymnasts for all abilities.

Applicants will need:

  • Qualification Required: Minimum Level 1 WA/MA/General/TG
  • Gymnastics Coaches must be a full member of British Gymnastics and agree to abide by its rules and Code of Conduct as well as the child Protection Policy.
  • Previous experience of working with children
  • Access DBS
  • Available to work evenings and weekends


Job Duties: Working with children to help them develop their gymnastic skills, setting up and checking the equipment on a daily basis, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout all of the premises as well as the equipment. Delivering activity classes for children of all ages as well as school groups.

Pipers Vale 2015

This year City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy sent 13 boys to the Pipers Vale Challenge & Cup Competition in Ipswich.

The coaches and the squad travelled down on Friday with the competition being held on Saturday & Sunday.



With 341 competitors performing 2046 routines over the 2 days it was our biggest Pipers Vale competition do date.


First to compete was our over 6 /under 8 gymnasts, and for Luca, Elliot & Jake this was there first competition representing the club competing against 64 gymnasts.. Elliot finished 41st with a score of 60.40, Jake finished 39th with a score of 60.45. I was another close contest between Luca who finished 18th with a total score of 65.20 & Dylan who finished 17th with a total score of 65.40.

The second round of competition was the under 9s and once again this was Koby & Fin’s first competition representing the club. This age category seen 70 boys compete with Tyler finishing in 13th place with a total score of 69.55. Will scored 65.40 finished in 36th place, Fin scored 62.00 and finished 53rd, Stuart scored 61.20 finished 56th, Koby scored 61.05 and finished 57th overall.


The final round of Saturday was the under 10 competition where we had Thomas & Jack competing.

Jack finished in 57th place with a total score of 65.65. Thomas scored 72.45 and finished 19th overall from 77 gymnasts.


On Sunday we moved to the under 12 competition and representing CNGA was Kurtis & Freddy. Kurtis put on an excellent performance improving 11.6 marks on his English Championship results finishing with a total score of 56.40 and 22nd overall. Freddy finished the weekend off with 4th place overall with a score of 67.30 (0.2 off bronze medal) and placed 3rd on vault.

And on the way home Misha & Kyle were tired from a hard weekend of Judging…..

British Championships 2015

Last weekend the prestigious Men’s U16, U18, Senior and Women’s Junior & Senior British Championships 2015 was held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool and produced some world class gymnastics from a field of gymnasts from all over the country. Included in this fantastic event were 3 gymnasts from the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy.

  Lana Chilton competed in the Women’s Junior competition and showed flashes of excellence but a couple of errors pushed her down the field but still managed to finish in 15th position overall.





Men’s Under 16

Harry Ross who was discharged from hospital 4 days before his competition performed well in his age group producing some excellent routines and finished 20th Overall. Harry finished 4th on vault in his age group and 12th across the whole weekend of all age groups including senior gymnasts.


Men’s Under 18

James Hodgson produced one of his finest competitions of the year to finish in 9th position overall with a personal best score of 73.200. James finished in the top 10 on 5 apparatus, finishing 8th on Pommel & Rings, 7th on P-bars and 6th on Vault. The highlight of the weekend was James becoming the Under 18 British High Bar Silver medallist.
