On Thursday 10th March 2016 Freddy Nelson became the Under 12 British Vault Champion 2016.
Freddy performed a straight kazamatsu which was the highest difficulty vault anyone performed at his age group. Freddy scored 13.250.
Not only was he vault British Champion but he is currently ranked 6th in Great Britain at his age group. Outstanding results and a lot of hard work paying off.
City of Newcastle Academy sent 2 boys to compete at the u12 British Championships 2015 at Basildon Sporting Village, London.
On Saturday 5th December 2015 George Ross & Freddy Nelson competed in their first British Championships.
During warm up George incurred an injury to his elbow while doing his double back somersault dismount off P-bars. George seen the physio, who taped him up and he managed with simplified routines to compete on all 6 apparatus. George battled through finishing 41st overall with a score of 60.232 and finished 7th overall on vault.
Freddy Nelson finished 7th overall with a new PB with a total score of 70.999. Freddy had some fantastic individual apparatus scores finishing 10th on pommel, 6th on vault, 5th on p-bars and 4th on floor. Outstanding results for first year British.

This year City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy sent 13 boys to the Pipers Vale Challenge & Cup Competition in Ipswich.
The coaches and the squad travelled down on Friday with the competition being held on Saturday & Sunday.
With 341 competitors performing 2046 routines over the 2 days it was our biggest Pipers Vale competition do date.
First to compete was our over 6 /under 8 gymnasts, and for Luca, Elliot & Jake this was there first competition representing the club competing against 64 gymnasts.. Elliot finished 41st with a score of 60.40, Jake finished 39th with a score of 60.45. I was another close contest between Luca who finished 18th with a total score of 65.20 & Dylan who finished 17th with a total score of 65.40.
The second round of competition was the under 9s and once again this was Koby & Fin’s first competition representing the club. This age category seen 70 boys compete with Tyler finishing in 13th place with a total score of 69.55. Will scored 65.40 finished in 36th place, Fin scored 62.00 and finished 53rd, Stuart scored 61.20 finished 56th, Koby scored 61.05 and finished 57th overall.
The final round of Saturday was the under 10 competition where we had Thomas & Jack competing.
Jack finished in 57th place with a total score of 65.65. Thomas scored 72.45 and finished 19th overall from 77 gymnasts.
On Sunday we moved to the under 12 competition and representing CNGA was Kurtis & Freddy. Kurtis put on an excellent performance improving 11.6 marks on his English Championship results finishing with a total score of 56.40 and 22nd overall. Freddy finished the weekend off with 4th place overall with a score of 67.30 (0.2 off bronze medal) and placed 3rd on vault.
And on the way home Misha & Kyle were tired from a hard weekend of Judging…..

Last weekend the prestigious Men’s U16, U18, Senior and Women’s Junior & Senior British Championships 2015 was held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool and produced some world class gymnastics from a field of gymnasts from all over the country. Included in this fantastic event were 3 gymnasts from the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy.
Lana Chilton competed in the Women’s Junior competition and showed flashes of excellence but a couple of errors pushed her down the field but still managed to finish in 15th position overall.
Men’s Under 16
Harry Ross who was discharged from hospital 4 days before his competition performed well in his age group producing some excellent routines and finished 20th Overall. Harry finished 4th on vault in his age group and 12th across the whole weekend of all age groups including senior gymnasts.
Men’s Under 18
James Hodgson produced one of his finest competitions of the year to finish in 9th position overall with a personal best score of 73.200. James finished in the top 10 on 5 apparatus, finishing 8th on Pommel & Rings, 7th on P-bars and 6th on Vault. The highlight of the weekend was James becoming the Under 18 British High Bar Silver medallist.

Between the 7th-9th November 2014 9 boys from City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy travelled down to Birmingham to represent the North Region at the National Club Development and Elite Grades.
In the Level 1 category we had a team for the 2nd year running with 5 boys making up the team (Thomas Coppen, Thomas Minto, Jack Hodgson, Aiden Clarke, Lewis Cruz). With 70 gymnasts competing in the Level 1 category the boys did extremely well. Thomas Coppen was highest place finished in the team finishing 15th with a score of 60.850, finishing 1st place on pommel & 3rd on vault. Thomas Minto finished 40th with a total score of 57.650. Jack finished 51st with a total score of 56.40. Aiden finished 55th with a total score of 55.500. Lewis Cruz had an outstanding competition on floor (5th overall), pommel (6th overall), rings (13th overall) and vault (7th overall) he finished 46th with a total score of 57.200.
In the Level 2 category we had 3 gymnasts representing the region. George Ross & Kurtis Rutter competed in the club development grades level 2 category against 75 gymnasts. Kurtis finished 23rd with a score of 58.150. George Ross with a batch of food poisoning battled through his competition to pull off an outstanding result winning the Bronze medal with a total score of 61.850 with some fantastic results on individual apparatus and will now go to a training camp at Lilleshall in December.
Freddy Nelson was the only boy to represent the North region in the National Elite Grades. Freddy was competing alongside 39 other gymnasts and with the standard being so high Freddy performed extremely well in his first national elite competition to be ranked 23rd in the whole country at his age group with a score of 67.90.
Seth Collin represented the North region in the Level 4 club development grades and he finished 21st from 41 gymnasts with a score of 54.150, a great performance from Seth.
Fantastic results from all the boys.
